Overnight success is rare in Indian television. For Pulkit Samrat, however, a single audition led to an unexpected turning point that changed the course of his career. What began as a hesitant step into television soon transformed him into a household name across the country.
What started as a reluctant audition for a show he wasn’t even sure he wanted to do soon became a life-defining moment. Pulkit’s entry into Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi wasn’t just a casting breakthrough — it was a moment where timing, instinct, and opportunity aligned perfectly.
In a recent interview, Pulkit recalled how unsure he initially was about taking up a daily soap. Even at the start of his career, he aspired for versatility and depth as an actor and was hesitant about what he assumed would be typical television melodrama. “I remember saying I didn’t want to do TV serial-type work. I wanted something more versatile,” he shared.
The casting team, however, insisted that the role was different — layered, fresh, and impactful. What finally convinced him was the promise of a meeting with Ekta Kapoor herself. Trusting their conviction, Pulkit packed his bags and flew to Mumbai overnight.
Ekta Kapoor had seen his photographs and wanted to meet him — a moment Pulkit describes as a turning point. What followed was a whirlwind. He was groomed, given a signature haircut, and put through a screen test. The footage was immediately sent across, and soon after, Pulkit found himself sitting across from the woman who would go on to change his professional trajectory. Her verdict was instant. “Okay, done. Ready.”
Amid this sudden professional breakthrough, Pulkit felt an emotional pull. His parents were still unaware of what had just unfolded. In an era before video calls and instant updates, he requested one night to return to Delhi — officially citing medical reasons due to a back issue — but truly, to see his family.
What happened next remains one of his most cherished memories. “Landing in Delhi, I saw my parents waiting at the airport. There were tears, hugs, and barely any words,” he recalls. “Within hours, I was back on a flight to Mumbai — returning to the sets with a heart full of emotion and a future forever changed.”
Pulkit Samrat’s television debut soon became iconic. Introduced as part of the show’s generational leap, he entered Indian households with the song Wo Krishna Hai, which went on to become one of the first full-length launch tracks for a television character. Alongside Mouni Roy, Pulkit emerged as the face of the new generation, a moment firmly etched into Indian television history. “Overnight, brother, overnight, I was a household name,” Pulkit says.
Since then, Pulkit Samrat’s career has spanned genres and tones — from the gritty intensity of Taish to becoming one of the most loved faces of popular cinema through Fukrey. With projects like Rahu Ketu and the much-anticipated Glory on the horizon, Pulkit continues to expand his range, choosing stories that reflect growth, ambition, and a clear forward trajectory.
From an overnight television debut to a body of work built on versatility and audience connect, his journey stands as a reminder that while destiny may open the door, it is consistency and choice that shape what follows.
