Janhvi Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Raveena Tandon, John Abraham and others oppose Supreme Court order on stray dogs

The recent order of the Supreme Court to remove all stray dogs from the streets of Delhi-NCR and send them to shelter homes has sparked a debate across the country. Especially, many stars associated with Bollywood have openly come out against this decision and called it inhuman and impractical.

Janhvi Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Tiger Shroff shared a petition on their Instagram stories, writing, "They call it a threat, we call it a heartbeat. Supreme Court says - remove and lock up every stray dog in Delhi-NCR. No sunlight, no freedom, no familiar faces they see every morning. These are not just 'stray dogs', these are the ones who wait for biscuits at the tea stall, guard shops at night, and welcome children back from school with a wagging tail."

Singer Sophie Choudry called it "heartbreaking and cruel" and said that there would not be enough space in the shelter. She questioned why attention was not being paid to tackling the real threats. Raveena Tandon told Hindustan Times, "Where the number of Indies (Indian breed dogs) has increased, the responsibility lies with the local bodies, who did not carry out vaccination and sterilization campaigns properly."

John Abraham wrote a letter to the Chief Justice demanding a review of this order and said that this decision is not only insensitive but also against constitutional responsibilities. Director Siddharth Anand expressed anger and said, "This is a death warrant. People feed them on the streets, but in the shelter they will die of hunger. We have to stop this massacre." Actor Adivi Sesh said, "This order is against the compassionate values of India. With respect to both the spirit and purpose of the law, I strongly oppose it."

Earlier, during the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had said that the safety of children is paramount and just because some people call themselves 'animal lovers', they cannot be put in danger. This comment has also angered animal welfare organizations and animal lovers.
