Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri’s upcoming film Dhadak 2 is creating waves on the internet ahead of its release this week. In an exclusive interview with Peeping Moon, Triptii opened up about how the film mirrors some of her own experiences growing up in a middle-class Indian household.
Sharing her thoughts on the film’s subject and how it connects to her personal life, Triptii said, “We've grown up in an environment where you would hear stories like this. In fact, we have also seen and experienced it, you would hear a cousin’s wedding is happening, and someone is not allowed to go. Why? Because it’s an inter-caste marriage. At that time, we wouldn’t question it because we hardly had any knowledge. We thought this is how life is, and we couldn’t look at life any other way”.
She further added, “As you grow older, as you learn more about life, study, and educate yourself, you realise that so many things we grew up with were wrong, and we never questioned them. And why didn’t we? I am so, so glad that this film is coming out and talking about these important topics in society. I truly believe films are a form of emotional education. If they can reach people who don't believe in treating others differently, but still do so because someone belongs to a different caste, then I think they should watch this film and learn something.”
Dhadak 2 explores the deep-rooted issue of caste-based discrimination in Indian society. The film is directed by Shazia Iqbal and produced by Karan Johar, Umesh Kumar Bansal, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Meenu Aroraa, Somen Mishra, and Pragati Deshmukh under the banners of Dharma Productions, Zee Studios, and Cloud 9 Pictures. The film is set to release in cinemas on August 1, 2025.
