Box Office this week: ‘Superman’ soars high, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ nears ₹150 Cr, ‘Metro’ fades amid competition

Every Friday marks the beginning of a new competition in the world of cinema, for some films it is a flight of hopes and for some it is a mirror of reality. This week too, some new films tried their luck at the box office, while some old hits strengthened their hold. On one hand, while Hollywood’s big budget film ‘Superman’ made a strong entry at the Indian box office, Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ is not showing any signs of slowing down even in the fourth week. On the other hand, content-based films also caught the attention of the audience, but there were some which created a buzz but could not hold on. Let’s know how the films performed on Friday and whose shine is now fading.

Hollywood's much-awaited film ‘Superman’ made a great start in India, earning 7.75 crores on the first Friday. This film is considered a new beginning for the DC Universe, and considering the popularity of superhero films in India, its opening is considered quite good. There has been tremendous enthusiasm for the film among the multiplex audience, and its collection is expected to increase well over the weekend.

On the other hand, ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ has shown stability in its second week as well. With earnings of 3.50 crore on Friday, the film's total collection has now reached 60.75 crore. The film is consistently getting a good response in metro cities thanks to tremendous VFX, nostalgia and foreign franchise fan base.

Rajkummar Rao's film ‘Maalik’ has done a business of 2.75 crore this Friday. The film is made on a serious and sensitive subject, and its opening is proof that the audience has now started giving importance to content-driven cinema as well. With good reviews and word of mouth publicity, the road ahead for the film also looks positive.

On the other hand, ‘Metro In Dono’ was quite slow in the second week. The film earned 2.25 crore on Friday, taking its total collection to 27.35 crore, but its performance is continuously declining. The story and treatment of the film is not new, and its multi-narrative style now feels tired. The director has tried to repeat the old success of ‘Life in a Metro’, but neither the characters leave an impact nor do they create emotional depth. There is no solid aspect in the film that can connect with the audience, due to which its box office graph is continuously going downwards.

Sports drama ‘F1’ has shown the spirit to stay in the third week as well. With a collection of 1.75 crore on Friday, its total box office collection has now reached 61.05 crore. This film based on the world of racing is attracting the youth a lot, especially in small towns where its performance has been better than expected.

Lastly ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ earned strongly for the fourth consecutive week. With earnings of 0.90 crores on Friday, the film has now reached a total collection of 149.05 crores. The film has attracted a lot of family audiences and its emotional story has created a deep connection with the audience. Now this film is very close to joining the 150 crore club.
