Tamil cinema veteran actor Kamal Haasan's much-awaited film 'Thug Life' has come under controversy these days. Recently Kamal Haasan had made a statement about the Kannada language, against which many organizations of Karnataka have started protesting. After this statement, not only Kamal Haasan is being criticized, but his upcoming film 'Thug Life' is also being criticized. The matter has now reached the Karnataka High Court, where a temporary ban has been imposed on the release of the film in the state till the next hearing.
Amidst this decision, some major cinema halls of Bangalore have knocked the door of the High Court. They have requested the court to allow the film to be released on the scheduled date, i.e. June 5. Along with this, they have also demanded that they should be provided security during the release of the film, so that any kind of violence or damage to property can be avoided.
A major theatre chain has sought to be implemented in the petition filed by Kamal Haasan's production company. Theatre owners say they have been entertaining people through cinema for decades, but this time they are receiving threats that their property may be damaged if they release the film.
The petitioners also say that if the film is not released on time, they may suffer financial losses. Apart from this, they also fear that due to the delay, pirated copies of the film may be leaked online, which will affect legitimate ticket sales.
'Thug Life' is a gangster drama, starring Kamal Haasan along with actors like Silambarasan, Ali Fazal, Nassar, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan and Trisha Krishnan in important roles. The film is directed by Mani Ratnam, while Kamal Haasan is also its co-writer. The film is scheduled to release nationwide on June 5, but its release in Karnataka is currently in doubt.
