Vijay Deverakonda is preparing for the release of his upcoming film 'Kingdom', but in the meantime he has also got caught in a controversy. At the pre-release event of the film 'Retro' held in Hyderabad, while speaking on the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, he made some comments, which some people considered insulting to the tribal community. On this, a lawyer has filed a police complaint against him.
Vijay shared a post on social media giving his clarification in this matter. He wrote, "I have come to know that some people have objected to a comment made by me during the 'Retro' audio launch event. I want to clarify that I had no intention to hurt any community, especially our Scheduled Tribes, whom I deeply respect and consider an integral part of our country."
He further said, "I was talking about unity — that India is one, our people are one, and we must move forward together. So, when I am urging all of us to stay united as a country, why would I knowingly discriminate against any Indian group, whom I consider my family, my brothers?"
Vijay also clarified that he used the word 'tribe' in a historical and dictionary context, and not for the Scheduled Tribes of India. He said, "If any part of my message was misunderstood or hurtful, I express my heartfelt regret. My sole intention was to talk about peace, progress and unity. I will always use my platform for upliftment and unity — never for division."
Following the controversy, Vijay Deverakonda has clarified his stand and apologised and expressed regret for his words. He also assured that his aim has always been to promote unity and harmony in society.
