Kalki Koechlin crowd funds for her debut American movie 'Her Song'

Critically acclaimed actress Kalki Koechlin, known for her unique and intriguing roles, is set to star as American writer Olivia in director John Keller’s debut comedy feature film ‘Her Song’. In a bid to bring the project to life, Koechlin is actively helping her production house raise funds.

In a promotional video, Kalki humorously introduces herself, highlighting her popularity in India versus her anonymity in France. “Hi, my name is Kalki. I am a very famous actress in India. Everybody knows me here. Nobody knows me in France. I have 1 million followers on Instagram, but that still hasn’t got us money to make the film,” she says.

‘Her Song’ is being produced by Elea Clair and Marine Assaiante under the banner of Six and Midnight Films. The film will also feature Clair, Zach Grenier, and notable collaborations with American novelist John M. Keller and filmmaker James Ivory. Though the full storyline remains under wraps, hints about the plot have been teased by the cast and crew. Assaiante mentions it involves “tiny villagers” during the Second World War, while Kalki suggests it explores cycles and life. Clair encapsulates the essence by saying, “It’s about hearing your song.”

After that, Koechlin explores the character of Olivia, an American author who writes about people she observes because she thinks the world revolves around her. Olivia's character has an additional level of complexity because it is based on real-life inspirations.

Kalki Koechlin’s most recent appearance was in the coming-of-age buddy drama ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’ (2023), directed by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, starring alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, and Adarsh Gourav.
