Netflix puts Will Smith's Fast and Loose on the backburner after Oscars slap controversy: Reports

Will Smith's slap on the stage of Oscars 2022 is now going against him. While he slapped Chris Rock for his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's dignity and honour, things don't seem quite positive for him on the professional front. According to an international publication's report, Netflix has halted the development of Will's film Fast and Loose after the controversy.

As per the report, director David Leitch pulled himself out of the project and moved to Ryan Gosling's Fall Guy. Reportedly, Netflix has now put Fast and Loose on the backburner after the Will-Chris slapgate. It is still uncertain whether the streaming giant will make the project with a new actor and director.

After slapping Chris for mocking Jada's medical condition and shaved head, Will issued an apology on social media. He wrote, "Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologise to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness."

He added, "I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress. Sincerely, Will."

Days after the incident, Will resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, however, the organisation will still probe into the matter.
