Prateik Babbar reveals Sanjay Leela Bhansali called him for Saawariya, says 'I was in rehab so it couldn't have worked out'

In 2007, Sanjay Leela Bhansali launched two new talents, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Ranbir Kapoor, in his film Saawariya. The film introduced Sonam and Ranbir to showbiz and since then there is no stopping for the actors. But, did you know Ranbir was not the first choice for Saawariya? Prateik Babbar, who will be seen in Bachchhan Paandey, revealed in an interview that he could have made his acting debut with Saawariya.

Prateik added that since he was in rehab, he couldn't sign the film. He further shared that his grandparents told him about Bhansali's offer a few years later. "Actually, I have a funny story. Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali was calling my house when I was 18 years old, when I was in rehab, for Saawariya. I was too young, I was in rehab so it couldn't have worked out. But my grandparents told me a few years later," Prateik told.

Prateik further disclosed, "I never wanted to be an actor. I just stumbled into it and it became my calling. Since both my folks were actors – and good actors. I wanted to be a rockstar at that time, far away from the world of acting. I wanted to grow my hair, wear eye make-up, face make-up and scream on stage. Before that, I wanted to be a cricketer."

The son of late Smita Patil and Raj Babbar, Prateik made his acting debut with Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na (2008). He went on to star in films like Dhobi Ghat, Dum Maaro Dum, Aarakshan, Ekk Deewana ThaChhichhore and many others.
