We as family have chosen to celebrate his life rather than bury ourselves in sadness: Wajid Khan's wife Kamalrukh Khan on his first death anniversary

Ace music composer and singer Wajid Khan passed away on June 1, 2020. Today, it is his first death anniversary. On the occasion, Wajid's wife Kamalrukh Khan penned an emotional note for him on her Instagram account. Kamalrukh also shared unseen pictures with her late husband and said the family will be celebrating his life rather than burying themselves in sorrow. She said she can see Wajid every day in their children Arshi and Hrehaan.

"It's one year already since Wajid's passing over and we as his family have chosen to celebrate his life, the good times and good memories rather than bury ourselves in sadness. We celebrate his infiniteness. I think of him when I see Arshi and Hrehaan - through their smiles, their eyes, their music, their love for me. I see him every day through them. The world changes every day and life goes on through the memories we shared. I truly believe death is not an end. It is a to-be- continued....Onward and forward Wajid, to many exciting journeys into eternity," Kamalrukh wrote.

Wajid was admitted to a hospital for heart and kidney ailments. However, succumbed to COVID-19 which he picked from his mother. Days after his untimely demise, Kamalrukh revealed that she was subjected to mental harassment by Wajid's family for not converting to Islam post marriage. However, they were living separately since 2014, their divorce never got finalised.

Talking about the pressure she faced from Wajid's family, Kamalrukh had told a leading daily, "Wajid's family kept insisting that our children were illegitimate as was our marriage since we had not married as per Muslim law (nikaah, which if I was to do, would mean me converting to Islam). For them the Special Marriages Act didn't mean anything. I could never celebrate any Parsi festival without them making a hue and cry over it."

She had also said, "No woman should have to face what I have faced during these 17 years of marriage. If my children's inheritance is under threat and my reputation is being dragged through the mud, I will speak out. No one should be able to get away with this. Legal battles apart, people should know. If an educated, independent woman like me can go through this just because she married for love and did not convert, a lot worse can happen to others that are less empowered. Beyond forced conversions and marriages tied to conversions, I want to focus on the trauma that I have faced. My post isn't against any one religion. All religions are equal, it is how one uses faith to distort matters. I stand against this distortion."

In April this year, Kamalrukh approached the Bombay High Court requesting them to safeguard Wajid's assets. The Bombay High Court had asked Wajid's brother Sajid Khan and his mother to disclose his assets.
