Rajinikanth claims he is not in race for CM post, wants to play 'a small part' in bringing revolution in Tamil Nadu politics

In a press meet in Chennai on Thursday, after meeting the office bearers of his Rajini Makkal Mandram outfit, actor turned politician Rajinikanth categorically said that he was not interested in the Chief Minister's post, albeit there is an urgent need for a change in the system. As per a report in a leading daily, he said that his political party and the government, in case it came to power, would have different leaders.

Recalling how he felt there weren’t tall leaders to fill the shoes of former Chief Ministers and legendary politicians Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi after their demise, Rajinikanth elaborated his three-point vision and claimed that 60-65 per cent of his party's candidate for the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls will be in the age group of 45-50. The remaining seats will go to "good people" in other parties, professionals, judges, and former IAS officers. Adding that he wanted to do away with 'unnecessary party posts', he pointed out that political party and the government 'should not be headed by the same person'.

Reiterating that he didn’t want to become the Chief Minister and 'he is too old now,' Rajinikanth said, “I want to create leaders like Anna [former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai] did." On the other hand, his fans categorically asserted that Rajinikanth should be the party's chief ministerial candidate.

For the unversed,  on December 31, 2017, Rajinikanth had announced his decision to float a political party to practice 'spiritual politics' and contest all 234 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu in 2021.
