Veteran actress Shabana Azmi who was injured after her car hit the rear-end of a truck at the Mumbai-Pune Expressway last Saturday is recuperating fast and will soon be discharged from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai. Her husband noted lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar gave an update on the actress’s health and informed that she is recovering fast and her test results are normal and not worrisome.
Akhtar told an entertainment portal, “There is good news. All tests and medical reports including the MRI are positive. No serious harm was done. We can all breathe a sigh of relief.” Akhtar who was also traveling with her remained unscathed in the accident as he was in a different car with two other guests. However, Azmi suffered injuries and bruises on her head and face.
The accident took place last Saturday at around 3:30 pm as their Tata Safari SUV rammed into a truck from behind. The truck driver has lodged an FIR against the actress’s driver, Kamlesh Kamath, for speeding and rash driving. The incident took place near Khalapur Toll Plaza over 60 km from Mumbai as confirmed by Raigad SP Anil Paraskar.
Azmi’s accident sent a wave of shock amongst the Bollywood celebs that thronged to the hospital when she was brought to Mumbai. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several political leaders expressed their concern for the actress and wished her a speedy recovery.
