Shabana Azmi Accident Case Update: Charge sheet to be filed in the court against actress's driver, Police to summon him yet again for statement if required

Shabana Azmi, on Friday, met with a fatal car accident near Khalapur Toll Plaza while returning to Mumbai from Khandala. The actress who was travelling in her Tata Safari car sustained grave injuries after her vehicle was rammed by a truck in a head-on collision. However, her husband noted lyricist Javed Akhtar who was also en route Mumbai with her, escaped the accident as he was travelling in another car with a guest. As the veteran actress is undergoing treatment at the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in the suburbs, the driver of the truck with which Shabana's car met an accident, a few days ago filed an accident report against the actress's driver Kamlesh Kamath in Khalapur. Now, as per the latest report, the Khalapur Police recorded Kamath's statement and are yet to arrest him. Khalapur Police station in-charge, Vishwajeet Kaingade, in an interview with a leading daily, told that though not arrested, the officials will summon Kamath to the police station if required. He further added that in such cases, a charge sheet is directedly filed in the court. Kamath, in the accident, sustained minor injuries.

"A day after the incident, we recorded the statement of her driver Kamlesh Kamath, but he has not been arrested. We will call him again to the police station if required. The sections under which he has been booked don't require his immediate arrest. In such cases, we filed charge sheet directly in the court. In this case, too, we will file charge sheet on time," Kaingade told the agency.

Speaking of Shabana, Javed, in a conversation with a leading daily, told that she is recovering in the ICU and the scan reports are positive. He added that there is nothing to worry about. As per reports, the actress is said to be shifted from the ICU soon.
