On National Sports Day, Taapsee Pannu confirms being in talks to play Mithali Raj in the latter's biopic, says sportspersons are the real heroes

Taapsee Pannu is at the top of her game. The actress is headlining one interesting project after another. Her last release Mission Mangal is minting money at the box office and is inching towards the Rs 200 crore club, whereas her upcoming film Saand Ki Aankh is teasing the audience with one interesting still after another. Interestingly, Taapsee who owns a Badminton team has starred in two sports-based films, i.e, Soorma in which she plays hockey and now Saand Ki Aankh where she plays octogenarian sharpshooter Prakashi Tomar. She was also shown playing hockey in Manmarziyaan.

In an interview given to a leading daily, Taapse spoke about her love for sports and also confirmed that she is in talks about the biopic on cricketer Mithali Raj. Talking about the film, she said, “Honestly, I’ve stopped counting the number of sports films that have come to me! Maybe it’s because people by now are aware about the kind of love I have for sports. Also, the fact that I’m very inquisitive to learn sports, makers know I’ll put in my 100 percent to learn. But, I’ve chosen few out of all those. Yes, I’m inclined towards the theme, but my film choices will be more basis what the story is. I probably admire and follow so many sports stars, but not everybody has a story worth making into a movie. It’s a journey probably worth admiring. Also, I’d say that I’d love to be part of the Mithali film, but it’s too early right now to say it’s happening. I’m in talks for it. I’m doing another sports film, which will be announced soon.”

Today, on National Sports Day, Taapsee said that she has immense respect for sportspersons as they represent the country and deal with a lot of pressure. She applauded them and said, “I’ve always been fond of looking at sports people play because I feel they‘re the real heroes representing the country. There’s so much pressure on them to deliver and they don’t have a second take either.”

We hope we get to see Taapsee score runs as Mithali on the silver screen. Till then let’s keep our fingers crossed!
