Akshay Kumar's and Sonakshi Sinha’s 2012 action comedy Rowdy Rathore gets a sequel, confirms co-producer

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and choreographer-director Prabhudheva collaborated for the first time in 2012 film Rowdy Rathore, which also starred Sonakshi Sinha. Now seven years later, we hear that makers are all set to get a sequel to the action-packed entertainer. In an interview with a leading daily, Shabinaa Khan, who co-produced the original with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has confirmed that they are working on the script of Rowdy Rathore 2. "We are in the process of writing Rowdy Rathore 2 right now and inshallah, it will feature Akshay in the lead," said Shabinaa.

While Shabinaa refused to divulge any further details, she heaped praises on Akshay, saying, “Right from Toilet: Ek Prem Katha to Padman, his films have ample of humor. He can manage anything and everything and is one of the only all rounders we have in the industry today." Reportedly, the sequel is expected to go on floors next year.

While the original featured Sonakshi, we wonder which actress would star in the sequel opposite Akshay. Moreover, at a time when Bollywood is obsessed with sequels including the upcoming remake of Coolie No. 1, Kick 2 and others, it would be interesting to see how Rowdy Rathore 2 turns out. For the unversed, Rowdy Rathore featured Akshay in a double role—as Inspector Vikram Singh Rathore and a local thug, Shiva. It was he official remake of SS Rajamouli’s 2006 Telugu actioner, Vikramarkudu.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay has an eclectic lineup of films ahead including Housefull 4, Mission Mangal, Good News and Sooryavanshi.
