Gully Boy: Soorma, Tabeez and Mumbai Ki Galiyaan - Ranveer and Alia take Asli Hip Hop to another level; What say, Hindustan?

Ranveer Singh. First things first. Thank you for introducing Hindustan to Asli Hip Hop. The trailer of Ranveer's new film Gully Boy was announced on Friday through a short clip and trust us, it couldn't get any better. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Gully Boy casts Ranveer as a street rapper from Mumbai and the trailer announcement video is fabulous to begin with - so much so that the wait for the real jazz is becoming slightly impossible.

Gully Boy co-stars Alia Bhatt and Kalki Koechlin while the teaser concentrates on Ranveer rapping Asli Hip Hop and also features snippets of his life, set in the slums of Mumbai. Allow us to break down the teaser for you and after reading this piece, you will only end up watching it on loop. Just like us.

Presenting Gully Ka Ladka Ranveer

The moment Ranveer applies soorma on his eyes - you know that this stuff is real. His morbid attire, the tabeez - his entire appearance, actually, resonates the idea that Gully Boy attempts to portray. Ranveer's character is the 'voice of the streets' and the heart and soul of the gullies of aamchi Mumbai. You knew it from the first go, actually, didn't you?

Ranveer Ke Mashooka Ka Naam Hai Alia

Alia Bhatt appears to be Ranveer's character's love interest and though her role isn't pretty clear from the announcement video, it appears that she will eventually become his sole source of support in his journey. Her appearance is subtle - in a hijaab, practically zero make-up - Alia is breathtaking as usual.

Aur Ranveer Ke Distraction Ka Naam Hai Kalki

Kalki Koechlin is the rock, chic girl whom Ranveer encounters, suggestively, in order to advance his career. By the looks of it, seems Kalki's character will help Ranveer's to materialise his dream but pyaar ne interfere kar liya na, bro! In one of the scenes in the trailer announcement video, Ranveer and Kalki, probably during rehearsals, are seen caught up in the midst of an intimate moment.

Gully Mein Kiss!

Shouldn't be surprising to note that Ranveer's and Alia's chemistry in Gully Boy is beyond perfect. We enjoyed watching them chatting alongside the train station as much as we loved the glimpse of the amorous moments of intimacy between Ranveer and Alia.

Taking You Through the Gullies of Mumbai

Gully Boy has been filmed in the slums of Mumbai and the announcement video takes you through the gullies - overcrowded, tattered and rough - Gully Boy is a true vision of the street life. Be it the orange flag or the jam-packed settlements - Gully Boy depicts life in its utmost raw form.

Asli Hip Hop is This! What Say, Hindustan?

The teaser of Gully Boy, that has been made available online, opens with Ranveer's rap and ends with it. No dialogues. Maybe, that is the reason behind its instant acclaim. Ranveer is brilliant with the rap, no doubt, and the fact that his life has been juxtaposed to Asli Hip Hop - is what is making us crave for the film. Zoya Akhtar, give us the trailer already!
