Vinta Nanda records statement with Mumbai Police in case against Alok Nath

Writer-director Vinta Nanda has confirmed that the Mumbai Police asked her to visit the Oshiwara Police Station in order to record her statement on October 26 in her case against Alok Nath as she accused the veteran actor of sexually assaulting her around 20 years ago. Officials, in fact, also asked Vinta to provide associated documents and proof that she possesses with respect to the alleged incident.

Sources, in the meantime, said that Nath, 62, will be summoned by the Mumbai Police soon for questioning in the matter as Vinta has recorded her statement - a First Information Report (FIR) is expected to be filed against him soon after. Vinta has been asked to refrain from discussing the case further by the police.

Nath’s wife Ashu, meanwhile, asked the court to direct Vinta to abstain from discussing the case with the press or writing about it on social media until the hearing of the defamation case that she has filed against her, concludes. However, the court refused to oblige, saying that it doesn’t have the authority to issue such an order.

The court also questioned the defamation case that Ashu has filed against Vinta considering the fact that the matter concerns her husband, and not her.

Vinta had filed a complaint at the police station against Nath last week. With the #MeToo movement gaining momentum in India since the last month, Nanda, in a chilling Facebook post two weeks ago, accused Nath of sexually assaulting her when she was the producer of 90’s television show Tara, which cast the actor in the lead role.

Nath, also known as the ‘sanskaari’ actor on account of the virtuous roles that he plays in family dramas, had said that he “neither denies nor agrees” with Nanda’s allegations and that “only what a woman says will be considered”.
