Jalebi trailer: Rhea Chakraborty's-Varun Mitra's love story looks high on melodrama

After creating a buzz with an interesting poster, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and Vishesh Films have finally released the trailer of Jalebi: The Everlasting Taste Of Love, featuring Rhea Chakraborty and debutant Varun Mitra. And the love story seems far more melodramatic than what the first look poster suggested.

Vishesh Films unveiled the trailer on Twitter and wrote, "Everyone has their own love story. Happy, bittersweet, sad and sometimes full of longing."

The 2 minutes and 26-second long trailer opens with an introduction of the two lead characters, Ayesha and Dev, played by Rhea and Varun. It depicts how Varun's character of a tour guide falls in love with Rhea’s character, who is a copywriter. They get married and start living together and that’s when the trouble begins. Ayesha is unable to adjust to Dev's humble background and realizes that she doesn't belong there. Soon after, the couple part ways as Ayesha moves out of the house against Dev's wish. The trailer ends with both of them bumping into each other on a train journey, only for Ayesha to realize that Dev has remarried.

To say the least, the trailer explores the age-old concept of a woman not able to decide between her career and family life. It is not only high on emotion but brings forth the repetitive theme of modern day romance.

Meanwhile, the film received a lot of flak and backlash on Twitter recently, as many felt that the first look poster was a direct rip-off of an iconic shot called the Korean War Goodbye Kiss, captured by the Los Angeles Times, photographer Frank Brown.

Written by Kausar Munir, Jalebi is directed by debutant Pushpdeep Bhardhwaj and also stars television actress Digangana Suryavanshi. The film was initially scheduled to release on August 31, however, it got postponed to October 12.
