Ranbir Kapoor: I’m nothing except all women I’ve dated, characters I’ve played, books I’ve read

Ranbir Kapoor was born with both - a name and a last name to reckon with. He was christened after his grandfather, Ranbir Raj Kapoor, popularly known as Raj Kapoor. However, following his debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya, the star made sure we speak less of his family background and more about him in particular.

But, one thing that hasn't changed is his shy and introvert nature. In an interview with a leading magazine, the otherwise reserved actor dished out, "I’ve always been an introvert. My mother used to wonder how I’d grow up to become an actor. I never spoke, I guess I had a confidence issue. When I act though, I can channel another self through a character. It gives me the licence to be shy in my personal life."

According to Ranbir, it is the experiences of life that add colour to a person as an actor. He said:

"More than any film school or acting school, it’s what life teaches you if you’re open to certain experiences – good or bad. I think that’s what gives you colour as an actor. Then you can express your emotions. If you haven’t really experienced something, or watched someone else go through something, or if you don’t have empathy towards the people around you, you can seem a bit dry and superficial. The experience could be anything – loneliness, sitting at home not having anything to do. It could be travelling, being in New York City. I’m nothing except all the women I’ve dated, the characters I’ve played, the books I’ve read."

In times when every tweet and an Instagram story posted by an actor makes headlines, RK prefers to be off the social media radar. In fact, he told the magazine he is "okay not being spoken about or written about or applauded or criticised." Here's what he said:

I guess being away from social media helps. Because I’m not on it, I’m not used to that [sense of] constant gratification. I’m okay not being spoken about or written about or applauded or criticised. When you have a bad phase and your films aren’t doing well, there’s a sense of insecurity. But this is something I’ve chosen right now. The trick is to feel secure, and have faith in myself as a person, as a talent, because that’s contagious.

Workwise, Ranbir is gearing up for the release of Sanju, a biopic based on Sanjay Dutt, wherein he plays the titular role. The actor is also busy filming Brahmastra alongside Alia Bhatt who he, recently admitted, is dating.
