Twinkle Khanna cites Tom Hanks as the reason for not being able to adapt 'Man called Ove'

Twinkle Khanna might not have been able to become an A-list actress but she sure became a hot-shot writer and an interior designer. Married to superstar Akshay Kumar and daughter to Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, Twinkle found her niche as a columnist and an author and now is well-known by her pen-name Mrs.Funnybones. Her first book became a bestseller and the second book – The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad had a story inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist who introduced low-cost sanitary pads. The story was adapted into the film Pad Man starring Akshay, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor.

However, post the success of Pad Man which was produced by Twinkle under her production house, the actor-turned-author has not announced any project till now. On being asked whether she is planning to adapt another novel soon into a feature film by a leading daily, Twinkle said, “I read the A Man called Ove and wrote to the publishers wanting to adapt it for a movie but unfortunately, Tom Hanks had already bought the rights and it will be out in 2019, so I will have to start looking for something else now.”

She further said in the interview, “Life is a play of chance in the game of choice. I am a woman who is always working and always leaping into new adventures. Books, both writing and reading, are fundamental to my way of being and I am just glad that I have the opportunity to lose myself in the process.”

A Man Called Ove has already been made into a Swedish film by Hannes Holm and is based on author Fredrik Backman's novel and was released in 2015. The film was nominated for six awards, winning two, at the 51st Guldbagge Awards in 2016 and was also nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film and Best Makeup and Hairstyling categories at the 89th Academy Awards.
