Even as media and fans continue to throng the Juhu neighbourhood of Anil Kapoor, it has been revealed that there is a further delay in the repatriation of the mortal remains of legendary actress Sridevi. The Indian Embassy was informed by the Dubai Police last night that another “clearance” was required before the body could be released.
Yesterday the UAE authorities confirmed that Sridevi “accidentally drowned” in the bathtub of her hotel room. Additionally, Dubai-based Gulf News claimed that the late actress had slipped, and drowned in the bathtub. It was alleged that alcohol traces were found in her blood by the forensic experts. Apparently, investigations were still on to zero down on the circumstances surrounding the accident. Dubai Police claimed that legal proceedings were being carried out.

The Indian envoy to UAE, Navdeep Suri stated that the embassy and the consulate were working closely with the authorities to speed up the repatriation of Sridevi’s mortal remains. “It is their internal process. We do not know,” he told the media in Dubai. He also claimed it was difficult to give any timeline, stating that the UAE authorities were following their processes.
However, word has it that the actress’s body will be sent for embalming this morning at around 9 am. The body is expected to be flown back by chartered jet to India today for the funeral.
The sudden death of Sridevi after attending a family wedding in Dubai continues to send shockwaves through the country. The actress, who had attended the wedding of her husband Boney Kapoor’s nephew Mohit Marwah with Antara Motiwala, had stayed back after the ceremonies. Boney had flown back to Mumbai with their younger daughter Khushi in order to attend a dinner hosted by Manmohan Shetty and to attend an event by the UP government. However, he later flew back to Dubai.
It was reported that Boney was in the hotel room when Sridevi went to the bathroom to get ready for dinner. Later she allegedly collapsed and was found unconscious in the bathtub. She was rushed to the hospital where she was declared ‘brought dead’.
