Director-writer Ravi Shankar Alok allegedly commits suicide

Ravi Shankar Alok, an assistant director in Bollywood, allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the roof of a building in Mumbai on Wednesday, July 11.

The 32-year-old used to live on the seventh floor of Vasant Co-Op Housing Society at Andheri West in Seven Bungalow area. Reportedly, Ravi was struggling to get work for past one year. He was living on rent in the same building. As mentioned by his brother, he was in depression.

No suicide note has been found yet. A case has been registered at the Versova police station and the investigation has begun.

Ravi had assisted director Shimit Amin in 2004 hit Bollywood film, Ab Tak Chhapan. He had also directed independent short films like The Ticket and Khuli Khidki. The former was officially selected to be screened at the Ladakh International Film Festival 2012. The latter won at the Times of India - Humaramovie Wassup Andheri Film Festival 2013, and was official selected to be screened at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival.

Ravi had also worked as an assistant director with RGV Films and Five Elements Films.
