Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI 2023: Sea and believe with Vaishali S

True blue was what it was as the screen splashed a video of the deep with the fantastic fish is fluid motion, while the models also came on looking fashionably fluid. It was Lakmé Salon that presented Vaishali Shadangule, the first Indian designer invited to participate in the Paris Haute Couture and Milan Fashion Week, for the show Beneath at Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI at Jio World Garden.

The hair and makeup collection were inspired from the lifegiving oceans and the various mysterious creatures and elements it houses. A continuation of Vaishali’s signature style, this special collection depicted the scary descent in the depths of the oceans and of the self, to discover the beauties that lie within.

The line exhibited wearable art while keeping in touch with the heritage weaving traditions of India. The hair and makeup were designed and curated to not only complement the designer’s vision but also as an extension of this breath-taking collection.

The line was created with carefully chosen threads and yarns from various villages in India. The yarns were then woven into the finest metallic silk which was used to make the whole collection. The silhouettes are flowy yet constructed to form unconventional silhouettes as per the designer’s artistic interpretation of the deep, making it a form of wearable art in handwoven Indian textiles.

The line includes a mix of gowns and various artistic drapes using the designer's signature textures and handwoven fabrics.
