Lakme Fashion Week W/F 2018: the GenNext designers kickstart the fashion week

Lakme Fashion Week's GenNext programme has been the foundation for the careers of a lot of celebrated designers. This year is no different! The chosen five that made their debut this year are:

Yavi by yadvi Agarwal

Yavi's signature aesthetic is its embroidery, which was dynamically seen in their collection. The flowy layers of colors, handpainted ensembles and artistic prints were seen on the ensembles. Flowy fabrics and breathy ensembles ruled their collection. Earthy grays and greens made for the majority of their color palette, with a mix of popping colors in the flow. The models donned turbans to give the rustic, ethnic feel to the outfits. A delightful start to the sartorial week indeed!

Anurag gupta

Anurag's collection was inspired by Maurits Cornelis Escher's day and night artwork, that defines the transition between black and white, positives and negatives by further neutralizing them. Monochrome outfits with a mix of grays ruled the ensembles. Miniature prints, block colors merged with motifs, fabrics and dyes make for the whole collection. Well, that's some fresh fashion on the block!

Jajaabor by kanika sachdev

Jajaabor's collection, 'The Artful Lodger' draws its inspiration from many traveler tales and homestay stories from around the globe. The cultures, essence and silhouettes from these stories and experiences are reflected in their current collection. Sarees with trench coats, prints on white ensembles, patchwork, motifs and prints rule their collection. The color palette holds a dynamic mix of pastel pinks, tomato reds, blues and whites, Ah, what a delightful tale indeed!

A variety of textures and earthy mix of colors was majorly observed in their current collection. They found their inspiration in the earthy terrains of the Himalayas, making their designs subtle yet strong in their foundation. Colors like brown, silt, gray and monochrome ruled their ensembles. Fabrics like cotton, silk and wool made for the majority of their current design. Contemporary styling was their USP with asymmetric hems, overcoats and scarves which were seen around their designs. Muted yet strong, flowy yet hardcore, what a blend of paradoxes indeed!

 aur by ajay kumar singh

Breezy dresses with coats, faux layers and block colors make an appearance in their collection. Prints and graphics mixed with an occasional pop of colors and serene prints made for the majority of their ensembles. Motifs, patchwork and unique graphics made for their aesthetic. The inspiration to their collection was one's 'imagination' which is unstoppable and knows no bounds; just like the unique, contemporary prints and graphics are seen in their collection. Like their imagination, their collection and designs are unstoppable too!
