TV czarina Ekta Kapoor took her fans by surprise by announcing the reboot of the epic love saga, Kasautii Zindagi Kay. It was further revealed that Erica Fernandes and Yaariyaan fame actor Parth Samthaan will play the lead actors in the show, which originally starred Shweta Tiwari and Cezzane Khan. Now after KZK 2's premiere on September 25, Ekta finally opened up on her decision to revive the show with a fresh cast while retaining the flavour of the original.
In an interview with a leading daily, Ekta claimed that the idea behind Kasautii Zindagi Kay 2 was instinctive as she realized she wanted to do things that made her happy. When asked why she only picked up Kasautii and not her other shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi or Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, she quipped, "As a story, Kasautii worked far better. It is something I've always wanted to remake. Plus, I will not remake Kyunki without Smriti Irani, and she won't do it!"

Talking about how she had a few personality traits in mind for Anurag and Prerna in the revamped version, Ekta said, "Anurag had to be the kind of man who doesn't scream to get noticed, but once you notice him, he's unforgettable," further adding, "So far, my shows' leading ladies have been demure and the men are typical bad boys. But this is the new-age Prerna-Anurag; she even asks him if he is gay."

Ekta concluded by saying that apart from characterization, she wishes to change the way the quintessential vamp is portrayed on screen and wants to keep her subtle in Kasautii Zindagi Kay 2.
