Godzilla vs Kong lights up the box office, becomes the highest-grossing film globally amid the coronavirus pandemic

Godzilla vs Kong has continued to rule the box office. The mega-monster film continues to dominate the ticket windows and stayed strong at the numero uno spot over the past weekend in the international markets. According to reports, the film is now the global top-grossing Hollywood film amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The film in its third weekend of release raked in another $ 7.7 million at the box office, boosting its North American tally at $ 80.5 million. The film is touted to be the first to cross $100 million in the US and Canada ever since the pandemic began. The film’s ticket sales are noteworthy as the film has garnered moolah even when the theatres have been functioning at reduced capacity. The film is also available on OTT platforms for streaming and still has managed to create a history of sorts. The film has earned around Rs 50 crore in India as well and has made its way past the $390 million mark globally.

Godzilla vs Kong has beaten the records of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet which became a tentpole for a film released in pandemic. It had grossed a global collection of $365 million. Godzilla vs Kong beat Tenet which was the previous highest-grossing film of the pandemic era.

Godzilla vs Kong is directed by Adam Wingard and stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown and Rebecca Hall. It sees mythic adversaries meet in a spectacular battle for ages with the fate of the world hanging in balance at the outcome of the battle.
