It shouldn’t be surprising that Zoya Akhtar’s new film Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles, has taken a ‘massive start’ as it earned Rs 18.70 crore on the first day of its release. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, who tweeted the figures, said the fact that Gully Boy released on Valentine’s Day has benefited the film.

Considering its massive collections on the opening day itself, Gully Boy is expected to witness an upward trend over the weekend. Gully Boy, in fact, has impressed critics as well while Ranveer, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Alia’s respective performances have been praised severely.

Gully Boy stars Ranveer Singh as a street rapper from Mumbai and his character is inspired by the life of Indian rappers Naezy aka Naved Shaikh and DIVINE aka Vivian Fernandes.

Alia Bhatt stars as a medical student in Gully Boy and Ranveer’s love interest while Kalki Koechlin appears as an influential musician. The film was received extremely well at its world premiere at the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival over the weekend.
