Box Office: ELKDTAL and Thackeray continue their poor collections, Manikarnika remains strong

Shelly Chopra Dhar’s directorial Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga starring Sonam Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Rajkummar Rao, Regina Cassandra and Abhishek Duhan might have scored brownie points to showcase a homosexual love story in a mainstream film from the critics but the film is not finding many takers at the box office. The film is disappointing with its collections at the box office and the drop witnessed on Monday is far too much for a film to sustain and stand any chance.

The film saw the worst opening and the collections went down to Rs 1.50 crore on Monday. The fate of the film is not surprising due to its niche storyline. The film has now collected Rs 13 crore nett in the first week and will probably go to Rs 17 crore nett in the first week.

On the other hand,  Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi remained steady on its second Monday with Rs 2 crore nett. The film witnessed a drop around 30% from Friday and its second week total in four days is a satisfactory Rs 15.75 crore nett. The film looks to comfortable cross s 20 crore nett in week two and probably even Rs 21 crore nett. On day 10 of its release, the film has garnered Rs 76.65 crore. The final number is a good one for a female-driven film beating all films except Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Raazi that makes Kangana with two films out of the top three.

Kangana has also directed a part of Manikarnika. The film also stars Ankita Lokhande, Jisshu Sengupta, Suresh Oberoi, Nihaar Pandya, Danny Denzongpa and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub.

Nawzuddin Siddiqui and Amrita Rao starrer Thackeray has fared poorly at the box office with the Hindi version collecting Rs 15 crore nett in week one and the Marathi version fetching around Rs 10 crore nett. Thackeray has managed to fetch only Rs 25 crore nett in all formats. Based on the life of late Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray the film has not managed to do much business at the box office.
