Box Office: Fanney Khan, Mulk and Karwaan see an upward swing but it’s a long way to go

After a terrible Friday last week when all the three films that were released had very bad opening day collections, things have finally started looking up but still, there is a long way to go. The films that released on August 3 were Fanney Khan, Mulk and Karwaan. The three projects faced an extremely poor start at the box office especially when all the previous releases had gone on to mint a tremendous amount of money at the ticket window. However, now the films’ collections are looking up and they seem to have recovered from their initial hiccup and are making up lost ground.

Mulk that stars Rishi Kapoor and Taapsee Pannu witnessed ample growth on weekends and fetched around Rs 8.16 crore. The film is a courtroom drama directed by Anubhav Sinha. The interest in the film might have perked because it has been banned in Pakistan and right now Imran Khan is all set to be sworn as the next Prime Minister of our neighboring country, who is known to be a Bollywood industry pro.

Fanney Khan starring Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Pihu Sand, Divya Dutta and Satish Kaushik had the best opening day collections amongst the three but fell flat on its face during the weekend. It managed to gross only Rs 6.75 crore.

On the other hand, Irrfan, Sulquer Salmaan and Mithila Palkar starrer Karwaan saw an upward trend during the weekend minting Rs 3.7 crore on day 3. It fetched a total of Rs 8.1 crore. However, we need to watch out whether the road trip film is able to sustain its climb during the week or not.

The three films are not lacking in star power and there is no direct competition either like a World Cup or an IPL but the films are still not able to make the cash registers ringing. We hope that the three films pick up during the week to post a reasonable total otherwise they will soon be declared a flop.
