Exclusive: Want people to watch '83 in the theatres, it needs that canvas: Saqib Saleem on Ranveer Singh's film

Touted to be the biggest film of 2020, all eyes were on '83‘s release in April which was delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. In the film, Ranveer Singh stars as the then skipper Kapil Dev while Deepika Padukone plays Kapil's wife Romi Dev. The film also stars Saqib Saleem, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Jiiva, Sahil Khattar, Chirag Patil and Adinath Kothare in key roles. '83 is helmed by Kabir Khan and traces India’s historic Cricket World Cup win in 1983 and is one of the most awaited films. 

Now in an exclusive chat with PeepingMoon, Saqib, who plays the role of the indomitable comeback king of India Mohinder Amarnath in the film, gave an update on the film's release and said 'it must release in the theatre'. Talking about the the film, Saqib said, "It is a lovely film, it is one of the best scripts I have read. A dream come true film. I can talk about the film for hours and hours and tell what the film has done to me as a human being. I just want it to release, I want theatres to open and I want people to go and see it."

When asked about its release, Saqib said, "I want people to see this film in the theaters, if you ask me. It is a film that needs that canvas and that scale. So, I really hope the theatres open and we find a vaccines for this virus so that people can go back to the theatres to watch the film." 

On January 13, Saqib's first look as Mohinder Amarnath from the film was unveiled by Ranveer. Dressed in a cricketer's uniform, Saqib looked exactly like Mohinder aka Jimmy. "Courage of a Lion. Nerves of Steel. The Indomitable Comeback King of India. Presenting @saqibsaleem as MOHINDER ‘JIMMY’ AMARNATH," Ranveer had written while sharing the poster.
