He said hard work doesn’t have to pay-off immediately: Alia Bhatt on the advice that Ranbir Kapoor gave her after ‘Kalank’ failure

Alia Bhatt has spoken about how a piece of advice from actor-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor helped her overcome the heartbreak she suffered after her period drama Kalank tanked at the box office. The advice from Ranbir helped her change her perspective. Kalank was a very ambitious project produced by Karan Johar and directed by Abhishek Varman. It had a stellar ensemble cast that included Alia, Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Kunal Kemmu.

Alia was in conversation with KJo at the Jio MAMI Movie Mela with Star, 2019, where the director asked the actor on how she dealt with the failure of the film. She said, Strangely, I was really ok the day it happened. I had seen the film a day before and I knew in my head what was going to happen. Though I didnt think it will be going to be hit by a truck. Later on when I thought about it, what really broke my heart was that I always in my head had this idea that if you work really hard, itll always pay-off. But it didnt. That felt scary.

She further added and explained how talking to Ranbir gave her a new thought. She shared his advise and said, He said, you put in the hard work, it doesnt have to pay-off immediately. Itll pay off in your life, someday. Thats what it means to be a hardworking actor or a person. Someday the goodness will come to you in another film. My job is to put in the hard work. I believed in the film, it didnt pan out the way we wanted to, I felt bad about it for a few days but I had to focus on my next.
