Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister of India, is a revered figure in the country’s political history. One of the co-founders and a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he charted a different map altogether and garnered a wide and loyal fan base. As Mumbai gets its scenic Atal Setu, it’s time to revisit the glorious tenure of Mr. Vajpayee.

In Ravi Jadhav’s Main Atal Hoon, Pankaj Tripathi essays the titular character. From seeking his father’s guidance for becoming a great poet to being a member of RSS and venturing into politics with support from bigwigs, the biographical drama covers a few key chapters from his life. It touches upon milestones in the former Prime Minister’s career and educates the youngsters about his greatness.

Ravi Jadhav is a name you can blindly trust. Over the years, he has tapped into subjects that deserve your attention. When the directorial powers are with him, it is assured that a genuine product hits the screen. He explores the life of Atal Bihari Vajpayee with utmost sincerity and it reflects in the way he shapes the narrative. Considering it is a political subject, the director and his team of writers keep the lingo simple and easy for those who aren't politically inclined.

While Main Atal Hoon is a fine example of how to make a biopic with the right intention, some might find it to be more like a documentary. Since the pace is fast, the audience will not get bored. Ravi keeps it in mind that he is making the film palatable for all age groups. There’s a sweet love story, a conflict, a solution and to top it all, a beating heart that’s right in place.

Pankaj Tripathi gets into the skin of Atal Bihari Vajpayee effortlessly. A true reflection of the real-life person, the actor delivers a nuanced performance. Pankaj’s command over the Hindi dialect adds extra weight to Main Atal Hoon

Piyush Mishra as Atal's father is a delight to watch. The actor lends credibility with his infectious screen presence. Ekta Kaul plays Atal's love Rajkumari. Though their love story is left incomplete, you feel the chemistry between them.

Main Atal Hoon is a refreshing change from the action thrillers that are releasing of late. The soft and subtle classical music will stay relevant forever.

Main Atal Hoon is a relevant and timely film that shouldn’t be missed in theatre. Watch it with your family and friends.
