For the unversed, Rishi was in the middle of the shoot of Sharmaji Namkeen when he rushed to United States for his cancer treatment. Unfortunately, the actor passed away on April 30, 2020 without completing the film. However, in a first of its kind casting, Paresh Rawal stepped in to shoot the remaining portions of the film and play the titular character along with Rishi.

Sharmaji Namkeen also features Juhi Chawla, Satish Kaushik, Suhail Nayyar, Sheeba Chaddha and Isha Talwar among others. It is directed by Hitesh Bhatia.
