The hearing in Patiala House Court on a PIL filed against director Ali Abbas Zafar’s web series Tandav for allegedly hurting sentiments of the Hindus has been postponed. The court had a hearing today through video conferencing but will have a physical hearing on April 19.
The petition was filed in the Patiala House Court against the show by Hindu Sena founder Vishnu Gupta under CRPC section 200. In his petition, Gupta alleged that the show made a mockery of Hindu gods and hurt religious sentiments.
Amazon Prime Video’s web series is facing several cases for hurting religious sentiments and using objectionable language. Three FIRs have been filed against Tandav, after which a petition was filed in the Patiala House Court in Delhi.
The Uttar Pradesh Police recorded the statement of Zafar, producer Himanshu Mehra and writer Gaurav Solanki on January 22 in Mumbai. They were in the city to investigate the FIRs filed against them in Lucknow.
After the backlash, the makers issued an apology and removed the controversial scene from the web series after their second meeting with officials of Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
