My ex-wife and 28-year-old daughter live in another country: Ronit Roy on why his role in KKHH hits close to home

Ronit Roy currently appears in the second season of ALTBalaji's hit show Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain and speaking of his character in the series, said that he doesn’t find his role challenging at all because the plot is quite similar to the situation in his personal life. The second season of the series is based on Ronit’s character’s relationship with his daughter after his divorce.

While speaking to a leading daily about the series, Ronit said that his former wife and their daughter Ona reside in another country. Ona is 28 and lives with her mother after Ronit's separation. "I don't want to sound condescending or pompous, but I can't be dishonest. This wasn't challenging. I am at that stage in my life where I have seen it all. My ex-wife and I separated when my daughter (Ona) was young. She is now 28 and lives with her mother in another country. I have seen up close what a child goes through in the absence of one parent,” Ronit told the daily.

The second season of Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain, thus, reminds Ronit of his relationship with Ona as he said during his interview that it was obviously painful for him to love without Ona. Ronit also reminisced memories of Ona as a child and said that she is always on his mind. The pain, Ronit said, has transformed into a realization and he, has thus, channelized it into his craft.

"The pain is not locked away, it does not require revisiting. I don't need to remind myself about my eldest daughter; she is always on my mind. That she stays away is a harsh truth of my life. This has happened so way back in the past that there is no way to correct it. I have stories of her embedded in my mind — when she was six, she would say that every time she saw an airplane fly, she thought I was in it. Those words never left me. You can call it my failure as a father, but I don't fault-find anymore. The pain has transformed into a realisation that this is how it is meant to be. I channelised this experience into my craft,” Ronit added.
