Angad Bedi, Sumeet Vyas to play rivals in courtroom drama The Verdict – State Vs Nanavati

Ekta Kapoor's ALT Balaji is coming up with a new web-series based on the infamous 1959 trial case of K.M. Nanavati Vs. State of Maharashtra. Titled The Verdict – State Vs Nanavati, the courtroom drama will feature Angad Bedi and Sumeet Vyas playing rival lawyers. Angad will portray lawyer Karl Khandalavala, while Sumeet will step into the shoes of eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani for the 10-episode series, to be helmed by Shashant Shah.

Talking about his collaboration with ALT Balaji, Angad shared with a leading daily that he trusts Ekta to break every stereotype by exploring different genres and when he heard the show's concept, it totally blew his mind. He further divulged details about his character and added, "The story at its core is so powerful, and who wouldn’t take up the opportunity to play Karl Khandalavala, the experienced top running criminal lawyer. It’s an interesting role and I have already started preparing for it."

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Sumeet who has already undergone several look tests for his part does not want his role to look caricaturish. In an interaction with another leading daily, he revealed how he is prepping from the role with the material available on Jethmalani online since he has never met the lawyer in person. Talking about it, he said, "You can't have an opinion of Jethmalani that is wholly complete. You can't term him unfair, or even entirely fair either. So, it's fascinating to play that."

On a related note, the Nanavati case dates back to April 27, 1959, when a Parsi naval officer shot three bullets from his revolver at a rich businessman and later went on to confess his brutal crime to the Police. To say the least, it would be interesting to witness Angad and Sumeet in the screen adaptation of one of the most sensational criminal cases in India.
