Emraan Hashmi plays the lead in Netflix's 'Bard of Blood' series, produced by Shah Rukh Khan

Emraan Hashmi is the latest Bollywood star to make his foray into the digital world. He has been roped in to play the lead in Netflix’s upcoming Indian original series, Bard of Blood which is based on Bilal Siddiqui’s novel of the same name. The series is produced by Shah Rukh Khan under his banner Red Chillies Entertainment. Hashmi plays the role of a RAW agent who is recalled from his new life as a Shakespeare professor to come to his country’s aid.

Emraan shared the teaser of the series on Twitter and was soon welcomed on board by Shah Rukh for the new project. The teaser is 30-seconds long and crisp and simple. Emraan can be seen browsing through the source novel Bard of Blood as he says, “God has given you one face and you make yourselves another."

Emraan took to Twitter and shared William Shakespeare’s famous quote from his play Hamlet, “To be or not to be…” to which SRK promptly replied, “Be! Be!”

Hashmi plays the role of Kabir Anand, a debarred spy who returns from his idyllic life in Panchgani to save his country and his long-lost love. The series is multilingual and presents Hashmi with deadly combat skills and intellectual background that propels him to avenge the past and face deadliest enemies in a race against time. The makers claim that the series will involve highly stylized action sequences never seen before on screen in India.

In a statement published by Netflix earlier, Shah Rukh had said, “We have always tried to create world-class content and entertainment from India. Netflix has shown that Indian stories have a global audience and we would love to use this platform and its reach to tell more stories."

On the work front, Hashmi was last seen in 2017’s heist drama Baadshaho, his next film Cheat India went on floors earlier this week and is slated to hit screens early next year.
