Netflix India’s Original ‘Sacred Games’: Saif-Nawazuddhin-Radhika bring out darkness

Netflix India announced the big news earlier today with the first ever Indian Netflix Original. The show is titled Sacred Games and stars Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte in the lead roles. Netflix tweeted pictures of the three today from the sets. And we have our interests piqued.

Saif plays Sartaj Singh and is dressed in a cop uniform along with a turban. In the picture, he is holding a gun while blood is spattered across his face. He looks scared but ready to take on whatever comes next. Nawazuddin is seen in a kurta-pyjama, looking dead-straight in the mirror with a minor smirk. It is one picture but Nawaz oozes out darkness and crime! He plays the character of Ganesh Gaitonde, the owner of G-Company and a crime lord. Radhika is in formal wear with her arms crossed eyes full of question and contemplation.

Saif as Sartaj leads the show as a seasoned and a cynical police inspector. It is one peg of information that promises him to get his hands on the crime lord, Gaitonde. As time passes the cases and the chase only gets bigger. What once seemed to Sartaj a simple arrest becomes part of a much larger scenario, expanding over cities.

Eric Barmack, the vice president for Netflix Originals, during MAMI 2017, addressed the audience first about this show. He said, “We have these great film actors in a tight storytelling, that does feel like Narcos, in the richness of the shoot and complexity”. It is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap. It is co-produced by Phantom Films.

Sacred Games is adapted from Vikram Chandra's thriller novel of the same title. The show is an hour-long eight-episode series. The shoot has been wrapped but the release date is yet to be announced.

All we have to say is bring it on Netflix! This feels like the one show we’ve been waiting for.
