While Samantha is yet to clarify the reason behind changing her name to 'S', rumours are rife that a film announcement is on its way. Interestingly, Samantha's next project is titled Shaakuntalam. The actress will be playing the role of Shakuntala. Based on Kalidasa's epic Sanskrit play, Abhijnana Shakuntalam, the film directed by Gunasekar is said to narrate the epic story of King Dushyant and Shakuntala, daughter of sage Vishwamitra and Apsara Menaka.
Workwise, Samantha was last seen in Amazon Prime Video's multilingual web show The Family Man 2. She will co-star with Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara in the upcoming Tamil film Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal, directed by Vignesh Shivan.
