Storyline
This time around, the Mishra household is not merely limited to a fresh coat of paint and a Wi-Fi connection; rather, it is stepping into a new phase of life. With changing times, every member of the family is grappling with their own set of challenges and joys. Santosh and Shanti Mishra (Jameel Khan and Geetanjali Kulkarni) watch as their sons come of age. Amidst concerns regarding his career and future, Annu Mishra (Anant Joshi) experiences the stirrings of love for the very first time, while Aman Mishra (Harsh Mayar) appears caught in a moral dilemma, torn between right and wrong as he strives to pursue his passions and dreams. On the other hand, the social media popularity garnered by Bittu ki mummy (Sunita Rajwar) introduces a new twist to the narrative, allowing the show to touch upon themes such as women's identity and empowerment. Amidst all these transformations, ‘Gullak’ once again raises the question: can a person ever truly outgrow their roots?
Acting
The biggest talking point of this season is the entry of Anant Joshi, replacing Vaibhav Raj Gupta in the role of Annu. Anant has shouldered this responsibility with remarkable ease, never once letting it feel as though the face of the character has changed. In several instances, his performance appears even more impressive. Helly Shah has received significantly more screen time this season compared to before, and she has executed her role admirably. Meanwhile, Sunita Rajwar once again brings plenty of moments of laughter with her signature witty style. Jameel Khan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, and Harsh Mayar also appear as dependable as ever in their respective roles.
Direction
While different episodes of the season have been helmed by various directors, a strong sense of consistency is maintained throughout the entire series. The directors have successfully preserved ‘Gullak's’ simplicity, familial warmth, and small-town sensibilities. However, compared to the previous four seasons, this season feels slightly weaker, and the impact of its social messages also appears relatively diminished. Nevertheless, the show remains true to its identity and soul.
Dialogues
‘Gullak’ has always been defined by its dialogues and lighthearted humor. In this season, too, many lines bring a smile to one's face; however, compared to the previous four seasons, their sharpness and impact feel somewhat diminished.
Music
This time, the filmmakers have attempted to include a love song. It sounds fine, but considering the flow of the story, it does not feel particularly necessary and seems somewhat superfluous.
Overall
It’s a perfect weekend binge watch with family and friends.
