Maa Behen Movie Review: Funny, unpredictable and refreshingly different, this family thriller hits the right notes

Film: Maa Behen
Cast: Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, Dharna Durga, Ravi Kishan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Arunoday Singh
Director: Suresh Triveni
Rating: 3.5 Moons

Storyline
Rekha (Madhuri Dixit), a woman with a reputation in her community, runs a wine shop and lives with her daughters, Jaya (Triptii Dimri) and Sushma (Dharna), but her family is always the subject of discussion and criticism in society. Their lives are turned upside down when the body of Gupta Ji (Ravi Kishan) is found in their home. Rekha and her daughters scramble to hide it from the neighborhood and avoid suspicion. Meanwhile, the police investigation and rumors circulating in the community further complicate the matter. This story, filled with dark comedy and suspense, unfolds with many interesting and unexpected twists. To find out what the investigation reveals, whether Gupta Ji is truly dead, and if so, how did he die, and how did his body reach Rekha's home, you'll have to watch the film. Also, the film features a very funny cameo, which proves to be a pleasant surprise for the audience.

Acting
The backbone of the film is its cast. Dharna Durga, who is simply terrific in her part. There are moments when it is hard to believe that she is relatively newer than most of the other actors because of the confidence and ease she brings to the role. Madhuri Dixit delivers a commendable performance. Her comic timing, expressions, and screen presence work wonderfully. Ravi Kishan is powerful and nails every bit of his character. Triptii Dimri does a good job and fits well into the world of the film. Geetanjali Kulkarni and Arunoday Singh may have comparatively less screen time, but they make every moment count and deserve a special mention for their performances.

Direction
Suresh Triveni presents a refreshingly different story with great attention to detail. The characters and their world feel so familiar that it often seems like we have met people like them in real life. The film balances its dark comedy and suspense effectively, keeping the audience engaged throughout. The only drawback is that some of the sets feel slightly artificial for the kind of story being told. However, the strengths of the storytelling far outweigh this minor issue.

Dialogues
Not a single dialogue feels wasted in the film. Every conversation serves a purpose, whether it is adding humor, moving the story forward, or revealing something about the characters. No character comes across as boring, and the dialogues leave an impact that stays with you even after the film ends.

Music
There are several songs in the film, but ‘Khol Pinjar’ and ‘Kari Kari’ stand out. Both tracks elevate the narrative and are likely to stay with the audience long after the film is over.

Overall
If you want a break from routine love stories and action films and are looking for something different, entertaining, packed with dark humor, then ‘Maa Behen’ is definitely worth a watch.
