Salakaar Review : A spy thriller that fails to deliver on its promise

Series : Salakaar

Cast : Naveen Kasturia, Mukesh Rishi, Mauni Roy, Surya Sharma

Director : Faruk Kabir

Rating : 2.5 Moons

Storyline

Inspired by true events, the story of Salakaar moves forward in two different timelines,1978 and 2025. In 1978, RAW agent Adheer (Naveen Kasturia) is on a mission against General Ziaul (Mukesh Rishi) in Pakistan, while in 2025, Mariam (Mouni Roy) spies for India while getting close to Pakistani Colonel Ashfaq (Surya Sharma). Mariam discovers a top secret nuclear project of Pakistan, which is a big conspiracy against India. The premise of the story is strong, but the execution is weak.

Acting

Naveen Kasturia plays the role of a RAW agent for the first time and has made a great effort. His new avatar brings freshness. But experienced actors like Mukesh Rishi and Mouni Roy do not live up to expectations.

Direction

Faruk Kabir has done a good job in some scenes, but fails to keep the story tight and maintain the pace throughout the series. The lack of consistency and grip in direction is clearly visible.

Dialogues

Some dialogues are okay, but for a series like this, goosebump-inducing monologues and powerful lines are a must. Here the dialogues feel cold and ineffective.

Music

None of the songs or background scores help to enhance the mood or thrill of the story.

Overall

'Salakaar' can be skipped without regrets.
