HanuMan Review: Teja Sajja's superhero film is a delightful fun ride with a mythological touch

 Film: HanuMan

Cast: Teja Sajja, Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Raj Deepak Shetty, Vinay Rai

Director: Prasanth Varma

Rating: 3 Moons

Much before Hollywood superheroes took over the globe, India already had its greatest and most beloved Hanuman to adore and love. Director Prasanth Varma pays tribute to the superhero of Indian mythology with his recently released film, HanuMan.

HanuMan is set in the fictional village of Anjanadri. In the backward and undeveloped village lives Hanumanthu (Teja Sajja). As destiny has it, he is meant for greater things. The good vs evil battle begins when Hanumanthu becomes HanuMan post being blessed with supernatural powers and Michael (Vinay Rai) is desperate to gain similar abilities. Michael, a greedy and power-hungry man, has aspired to be a superhero since childhood.

HanuMan is a good attempt in telling a story of good vs evil. Given the current mood of the nation and Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha date coming closer, the film seems timely and appropriate for a theatrical viewing. While the story might seems similar, HanuMan offers an interesting visual experience despite being made on a limited budget.

Be it the heroic moments or acknowledging the influence of Marvel and DC Comics, HanuMan is a fun ride that is engaging enough to keep you hooked to the screen. The transformation from human to superhero doesn't seem rushed and director Prasanth builds the graph in such a way that the plotline doesn't look forced. He convinces you to believe in Hanumanthu's story and his emotional turmoil.

HanuMan has all the elements to please people of all age groups. The visual effects are done well despite being made on a stricter budget. The film does falter in the climax and fails to create the impact the makers had envisioned. Despite the minor hiccups, HanuMan is a commendable efforts.

Teja Sajja is charming in HanuMan. His on-screen presence plays an important role in elevating the film. Vinay Rai does a good job at playing Michael. Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and, Raj Deepak Shetty shine in their respective roles.

HanuMan is a surprise package. Watch it with the entire family, especially children in theatres.
