Late-night show host and YouTube star Lilly Singh has secured another show on NBC. However, this time around she will be on the primetime slot. The series will be a two-part special called Sketchy Times with Lilly Singh where she will play every character on the show. Lilly’s show will feature musical parodies as well as satire. It is hat-tip to her early work on YouTube. She earlier hosted A Little Late with Lilly Singh on NBC.
Lilly took to Instagram to share the announcement and give details about the new project. She wrote, “Keep your head down and do the work. Let your hustle do the talking. I’ve been preparing for this moment for the past ten years. This is the first step. Two-part series with @nbc and we’re talking Primetime baby! Produced by my company @unicornislandprod! #SketchyTimes with Lilly Singh is my new sketch comedy show where I play every character. I’m very grateful to be able to create in.. well, some sketchy times. I think we all need a little laughter this year. And of course, as always, infinitely grateful to all of you for the support. Everyone I work with says the same thing: “your fans are incredible” and sis, I been knew. Let’s do this #TeamSuperAllDay.”
The 31-year-old comic said she is looking forward to the project and told an online portal, “Ten years ago, I started playing every character in my sketches because my friends were all ‘stop annoying us to be a part of your skits.’ With Sketchy Times, I'm going to play every character because me, myself and I have been training for this moment.” The show will be shot at Lilly’s home with minimal crew and following proper safety protocols due to Coronavirus pandemic.
Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, co-presidents of Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment said, “Lilly has always created content that is original, relatable, and of the moment. Now more than ever, her unique comedic style is the perfect antidote to help us through these challenging times.” Besides Lilly, Keisha Zollar and Sean O’Connor will write the new sketch series. Polly Aurrit along with Lilly and O’Connor will executive produce the show.
