A Call To Spy Trailer: Radhika Apte effortlessly transforms into Indian-origin British spy Noor Inayat Khan

The makers of Radhika Apte's Hollywood film A Call To Spy released the trailer on social media on Sunday. Directed by Lydia Deal Pilcher, the World War II-set espionage thriller will release in theatres on October 2, 2020. The film, apart from Radhika, features Stana Katic along with Sarah Megan Thomas who has also written the screenplay.

Speaking of the trailer, A Call To Spy is set against the backdrop of World War 2. It orbits around the unsung female spies of Winston Churchill’s Special Operations Executive (SOE) who are recruited to undermine the Nazi regime in France. Stana plays the role of Vera Atkins who brings Virginia Hall (Sarah) and Noor Inayat Khan (Radhika) onboard. Radhika is a wireless officer and a pacifist.

Radhika's character Noor Inayat Khan was a British spy born in Russia to Indian Muslim father Inayat Khan who was apparently a descendant of Tipu Sultan and a teacher of Sufism. Her mother Pirani Ameena Begum, an American. Talking about the film during an interview last year, Radhika said, "There were so many women who fought just as valiantly. Lydia feels very strongly for them and wants to tell their untold stories. I never thought I’d get an opportunity to portray someone involved with a World War. Being on the set, wearing those costumes, was an experience." She went on to mention that she met Lydia during the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. Radhika won the best actress trophy for the anthology film Madly. Lydia was casting for A Call To Spy back then. 

A Call To Spy had its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June, 2019.
