Prolific American TV host Regis Philbin passes away at the age of 88

Veteran American broadcaster Regis Philbin breathed his last at the age of 88 on July 24 of natural causes. The talk show host presented the US version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? among several others. Regis' family issued a statement to an international publication. In the statement, the grieving family expressed they were grateful to experience his warmth and sense of humour. Thanking his fans and admirers for supporting him in his 6 decade-long career and requested privacy. 

"We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved Regis Philbin passed away last night of natural causes, one month shy of his 89th birthday. His family and friends are forever grateful for the time we got to spend with him – for his warmth, his legendary sense of humor, and his singular ability to make every day into something worth talking about. We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss," the family said in the statement.

Regis, in 1988, shot to fame as the host of Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee with Kathie Lee Gifford. After 15 years of the show, Kathie bid adieu but the pair still remained close. In 2001, the show was renamed to Live! with Regis and Kelly with Kelly Ripa joining Regis. After 23 years, Regis quit the show. He served as the host of the iconic Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? from 1999 to 2002 along with Million Dollar Password and the first season of America’s Got Talent. 

Born on August 25, 1931, Regis' did shows like The Regis Philbin Show, The Joey Bishop Show, A.M. Los Angeles and Regis Philbin's Saturday Night in St. Louis in the initial years of his career.
