Soon after the news of Naya's demise came across, the creators of Glee, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan paid tribute to the actress in a statement. In the statement, they recalled Naya to be 'one of the most talented' and 'special stars'. Saying that they are heartbroken over the loss of their 'friend' that they 'lucked into finding', the trio told, "Naya wasn't a series regular when we cast her on Glee. She didn't have more than a few lines in the pilot. But it didn't take more than an episode or two for us to realize that we had lucked into finding one of the most talented, special stars we would ever have the pleasure of working with. She could nail a joke as well as she could crush you with an emotional scene. She could move between being scary tough and deeply vulnerable with ease. She was a joy to write for, a joy to direct and a joy to be around."

In order to honour her legacy and journey, Ryan, Brad and Ian informed that they are currently in the process of creating a college fund for Naya's four-year-old son whom she loved the most.

Naya, on July 8, rented a boat with her son at Lake Piru. Four hours later, when the two didn't return, a boater went searching for them. He found her son asleep on the boat all by himself. After hours of searching, the officials found Naya's body early Monday morning.
