Tom Hanks captains a US Destroyer as he takes on Nazi U-boats in ‘Greyhound’ trailer

The official trailer of Tom Hanks’ upcoming war film Greyhound dropped recently. The film is all about ships, submarines and the Second World War. The film has impressive visuals, packed with jaw-dropping action and stars determined-looking Hanks in the lead. The film is also written by Hanks.

Greyhound is inspired by actual events and follows Captain Ernest Krause (Hanks) on his first day in command of a US destroyer (USS Keeling codenamed Greyhound) in the early days of World War II. The trailer shows the boat being ambushed by a pack of Nazi U-boats as it patrols the sea. The trailer shows all-hell breaking loose as there are torpedoes, missiles and naval strategies to outsmart your enemy before you are killed. Hanks is in his element trying to be an effective leader as he must deal with his own self-doubts and personal demons first.

Greyhound is based on The Good Shepherd, the 1955 war novel by CS Forester. Directed by Aaron Schneider, the film also features Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan and Elisabeth Shue in key roles. Greyhound is Hanks’ first return to the genre of war films based on World War II after the 1998’s Saving Private Ryan.

The trailer release of Greyhound comes days after Hanks announced that he and wife Rita Wilson had been tested positive for coronavirus. Greyhound is slated to hit the screens on June 12 this year.
