After resting his Iron Man suit, Robert Downey Jr. will be back on the silver screens playing another iconic and lovable fictional character Dr. Dolittle. Based on the 1920 children’s book title The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle, the film Dolittle is one of the most anticipated films of the next year. The film is based on the character created by Hugh Lofting. The film is also noteworthy as it’s the first film in 5 years of Downey Jr. outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The film has an ensemble cast and today, 10 character posters featuring the star-studded voice cast and the animals they will be portraying in the film was released. The film will have a stellar voice cast that includes John Cena as Yoshi the polar bear, Ralph Fiennes as Barry the Tiger, Rami Malek as Chee-Chee the gorilla, Octavia Spencer as Dab-Dab the duck, Tom Holland as Jip the dog, Craig Robinson as Kevin the squirrel, Kumail Najiani as Plimpton the ostrich, Emma Thompson as Poly the parrot, Marion Cotillard as Tutu the fox and Selena Gomez as Betsy the giraffe. Previous to Downey Jr. Dr.Dolittle was played by Eddie Murphy. Doctor John Dolittle is a lovable doctor who shuns human patients in favour of animals after he realizes that he can speak with them in their own languages.
The book has been adapted several times for films and plays. Previous to Downey Jr., Eddie Murphy played the role of the iconic doctor. Dolittle is slated to release on January 17 next year.
