A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood trailer: Tom Hanks steps into the shoes of Mister Rogers effortlessly

Sony Pictures just dropped the first official trailer of the forthcoming film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood starring Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers aka Mister Rogers. The story of the drama is inspired by the real-life friendship between Fred Rogers (Hanks) and Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys), a cynical journalist assigned to write a profile of the long-running television host. The film tells the story of the journalist whose life changes after he meets Rogers and the friendship that they developed which began in 1998.

Just as Mr.Rogers’ Neighborhood always started with the television host singing the classic theme song so does the trailer of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. We see Hanks singing and asking the audience, "Won't you be my neighbor?" Hanks is seen wearing the trademark red cardigan, nicely-pressed suit and gray hair. Hanks nails his act as Rogers from his gently lilting voice, to the way he puts on his cardigan and tennis shoes and the ever-pleasing smile on his face. There is no denying the fact that Hanks is the perfect fit to play Mister Rogers.

The screenplay by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster is based on the 1998 Esquire article by Tom Junod. Directed by Marielle Heller the film highlights the importance of kindness in a skeptical world. In a profound way, Hanks says in the trailer, “We are trying to give the world positive ways of dealing with their feelings. Sometimes we have to ask for help and that's okay, I think the best thing we can do is to let people know that each one of them is precious."

The film is releasing at the most opportune time during Thanksgiving. It will hit the theatres on November 22.
